Take Off!

Yes, I am now back in the UK, although I still have a lot of China related photos and stories to share (some of which I was saving until I was no longer dependent upon my school for, you know, a right to remain in the country). So right now I am another fresh unemployment statistic, surveying a variety of prospects and considering where I want my life to take me.

I know what I don’t want, which at least I reckon is a start. My time in China, seeing how few opportunities many people have, and the determination of some to create the life they want despite incredible obstacles, has made me more single minded, more willing to risk people laughing at me and saying ‘you want to do what?’

And, slightly off topic, I snapped these seagulls last week while I was enjoying walking along the beach, something I have very much missed doing in the last ten months or so.

  1. You've learned a very big lesson which will do you well in the coming years. I was raised more in a passive stubborn way as a Mennonite in the American midwest and wish I'd had more aggressiveness instilled into me. Great shots by the way!

  2. Wonderful shot J I can almost hear their cries and smell the sea. Only now I've got a Flock of Seagulls song stuck in my head.
Btw, I bet the house down the street with the German flag doesn't have a metal sign next to the window that says "German Embassy":-) Even with the sign and flag I think you are right about the people simply being Polish or of Polish ancestory. The Polish Embassy sign is kind of cool though.
Good luck in what ever you choose to do!

  3. It's funny, based on where you're at in life at the moment, your beautiful pictures of seagulls in flight seems almost metaphoric. Smile : )

  4. Now I'm curious, what do you want to do and what don't you want to do? I can almost smell the beach as well.

  5. It's great that despite your frustrations while living in China, you were inspired by the people there who overcame all kinds of obstackles to have the life they want. I hope you also find the life you want.

I love the flight of the seagulls shots!

  6. mountain mama - a subject for another post I think! Being indecisive I'm contemplating several different possiblities - just a question of prioritising them.

  7. Great sea gull shots, and I can imagine how you feel light enough to fly now that your China assignment is done and all the world's possibilities lie ahead.

  8. Are you glad to be back home from China? Did you find it restrictive? Great seagull shots.
