Yes, this photo was taken in July. Yes, it is meant to be summer in the UK. And yes, that is a pier you can see.
Or what's left of Brighton's West Pier, after a series of fires and storms. The last fire happened after plans were put in motion to rebuild it. Someone who took exception to this tossed a molotov cocktail or summat onto the pier from a speed boat in the wee hours one Sunday. And so it remains, if you need an antidote to too much candyfloss.

What do we want?

Its such a mess now isn't it, its a pity people have to be such animals and torch stuff, it would of been nice if they had re built it-nice black and white shot though.
ReplyDeleteI love it in black and white. Reflects the mood!
ReplyDeleteI think everyone's given up hope of seeing it rebuilt. Glad you both liked the bw though!
ReplyDeleteStorm that is cause by nature and fire which is cause but vandalism ?? What do these people gain by causing the fire and the rest of the people have to suffer ?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky. Idiot boaters.
ReplyDeleteThe pier's skeleton looks sad against the dramatic gray sky. I wonder why boaters would torch it?
ReplyDeleteIts a gorgeous and very atmospheric photo - I'm still sad about the West Pier, though. I liked it.
ReplyDeleteSO upsetting to hear about the pier thru your blog and skywatch! Heavy duty news but thickened rich sky shot picking up sad ambiance.
ReplyDeleteInteresting clouds you have there. Well you of Black & White to bring out the heaviness of the clouds. Was it raining?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.

Great photo, Jane.
ReplyDeleteI found seaside towns and their piers very odd when I first went to England... actually, what am I saying, I still do! ;-)
The culprit has never been found but people have generally thought that those who own amusements, etc, that might have lost out to a revamped West Pier were behind it. Money, as ever, was most probably the motive. Tbh, no-one was really that surprised.
ReplyDeleteYes, it had just finished spitting when I took this photo. Gotta love the British climate.
