Doorways: Bei Chang Jie

I have a confession. I love photographing doorways. Open, closed, scruffy, peeling posters, graffitied, classically smart...there's a place for them all on my memory card.
But...I rarely share them. Strangely, I keep forgetting to do the 'checkout this door' post, leaving all my doorways lingeringly slightly resentfully on the hard drive, muttering about how the sky pictures get unfair precedence. So, a mid week mini-series is born.

  1. I think had we been stationed in the same place for a fair amount of time that we would be excellent friends. I, too, love door photography. Looking forward to all the passageways.

  2. Your doorways are wonderful. They are portals into another world.

  5. Tina - luckily blogland lets us get to know each other by proxy! :)

Sandy - that's what fascinates me about doorways, there's nothing quite like a bit of liminal space.

Bethany - dig it out and let me know when you do.

Braja - I hope to have many more to keep you happy.

  6. Hi J, if you come to Taiwan, you will find a very different experience from what you have in China. The people in China have gone through real revolution (real communist rule, culture revolution, etc.). Taiwan has gone through its hard time but nothing compare to China. You will find people much more benign, more polite and gentler. Taiwan will be less foreign for you thus lesser adventure as compare to China. May be we will see you one day in Taipei!!

  9. I love doors too! I have lots of door pictures that I took in Italy 2 years ago that I pretty much guard jealously for myself. What's with that, I wonder. But I'm starting to incorporate some in my paintings, at least. I'm glad that you've decided to share some of yours!
